As a veteran, it seems only appropriate to take portraits of another veteran and his family on Veteran’s Day. The weather blessed us with a mild and sunny day – a treat for mid November. Ray and Kate wanted photos taken outside and near water, so we chose the Conservation Center, run by the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests.
Although it’s not a large area, it offers a good variety of settings for portraits. There are winding paths through the woods, open fields, and sandy banks along the Merrimack River. I enjoy walking and taking photos here and have done portrait shoots here before.
Ray and Kate, along with their two daughters, Claire and Emma, and their Australian shepherd, Plaxico, recently moved from Washington state to Bow. Claire, who is two, wasn’t feeling quite in the modeling mood, but we still cajoled her into getting some nice shots. Little Emma took in the scenery and the sun and like sitting in the leaves and playing with them. On the way back to the cars, Ray and I had a nice chat about his time in the Army, including a tour in Afghanistan.
