Singing in the Park (but Luckily not the Rain)

Who knew the power of music could make the rain stop?

All weekend the rain came down, sometimes harder, sometimes softer. But even the rain clouds decided to pull up a lawn chair and settle down for the show. The New Classic Duo of Tim Mikus and Victoria Hartwell brightened up the dreary weather with some fantastic covers of old and new songs at Tilton Island Park in Tilton, NH. The weather kept the turn out at the concert somewhat lower than usual for the weekly concerts, but the crowd was no less enthusiastic (especially during the conga line).

Victoria lives most of the year in Florida. Her and her family choose to spend the summers, though, in beautiful New Hampshire where Victoria’s mom, Allison, lived when she was young. In fact, the gazebo in the park is named after Allison’s mom who was a professional singer – clearly where Victoria gets her amazing voice. Her family puts on free weekly concerts at the park featuring different musicians and bands.

Tilton Island Park makes a wonderful setting for photos and I’ve photographed other concerts there last year as well as some fun portraits. The early evening sun coming through the trees offered nice lighting on those days. However, since the sun was taking a back seat to the clouds for this concert, I had to use my own lighting to add some punch to the images.

I encourage everyone to come out and spend a Sunday evening listening to great music (and even dancing) at least once before the summer ends. Hopefully, the sun will make an appearance at the rest of them.
