Don called me up last week. He planned on popping the question to his girlfriend and wanted to know if I was available to photograph the special moment. I shoot a fair number of weddings and also some engagement sessions. It would be nice to be involved earlier in the shared journey of two people.
We talked through the details about how everything would unfold. Working with Lisa at the Granite Restaurant, we came up with a good plan. I would arrive at the restaurant early to get set up – and then act casual, like a regular customer. Don and Jen would come in and sit at a table we had selected. After ordering drinks and chatting for a few minutes, Don would give Jen a card – my cue to start shooting (video as well as stills). While she was reading the card, Don would slip the ring out of his pocket and get down on one knee.
Everything went smoothly. And, of course, she said “Yes!” She hadn’t even noticed that I had started taking photos.
We shot a few photos in the restaurant, with the initial reaction and the wonderful afterglow. Then, we went out on one of the porches adjoining a room at the Centennial Inn (of which the restaurant is a part) to capture some more photos in the early evening light. They were a wonderful couple to work with and we got a variety of beautiful images (despite it being a tad chilly and breezy).
Congratulations to Don & Jen and I wish you all the best for the future!
