The folks at Let’s Dance, naturally, like to get out and dance any chance they get. Last weekend, a group of us took a trip up to The Weirs to rock with Blues Brothers Next Generation (BBNG) at Tower Hill Tavern.
The music the band played made it impossible to sit still – even if you didn’t get up, your body had to move to the rhythms and melodies and rocking beat. Of course, dancing on the dance floor generally looks better than squirming in your seat, so dance we did.
The playlist included Blues to Country, classic rock songs and newer tunes, fast numbers to get your heart pumping (and sweat dropping) and slower melodies so you could catch your breath and cuddle.
Elwood, Jake, and Zee – the front of three of the group – do more than just sing and play instruments, they put on a show. They banter and joke between songs, strut down on the dance floor, and wander among the tables and crowd, singing and grooving throughout (and posing for numerous photos). BBNG is both danceable and entertaining.
Some of the Let’s Dance crew was already familiar with BBNG. Lissa, a Let’s Dance regular, hired them to play at her recent wedding. Because we knew we could dance plenty of Swing at the show, another Let’s Dance denizen, Suzi, made the arrangements for us. A terrific band and good friends led to a fantastic night of dancing. Yes, on the way out, we did get a group shot of us with the Blues Brothers (and some with large lobster cutouts you stick your face in).
